Porn on the big screen in China, literally.

CHINA – Residents in North China were treated to a big screen showing of a banned porn movie when a worker accidentally played it on the big display screen in a busy square.

Sex and Chopsticks 2

“The forbidden legend, sex and chopsticks” was shown in all it’s glory to the entire square for ten minutes as the maintenance worker watching it did not realise that his computer was still connected to the advertising screen that he had been working on. An audience of hundreds gathered to watch the movie in the square which is also conveniently located near to the city train station, giving passing commuters a brief treat on their travels.

The advertising company finally alerted the worker who immediately disconnected his computer, thus spoiling the fun and then threw the DVD away, I mean seriously? Who still watches porn on DVD anyway?

At present it is unclear if the worker is in trouble with the authorities or if police have managed to recover the DVD for themselves. However according to Chinese law, playing porn on a big screen actually is an offence that carries jail time, up to two years in fact. I know what you are thinking and we were thinking the same, they actually have a law for that? Is this a common theme in China?

“The Forbidden Legend: Sex and Chopsticks” is based on a notorious Chinese erotic novel from the 16th century by an unknown author, “The Plum in the Golden Vase“.

The book is set in the Northern Song dynasty in the early 12th century, and centres on the exploits of Ximen Qing, a corrupt womaniser with 19 sexual partners including six wives and several concubines. Despite being banned, some Chinese people regard it as a classic.

It has also been spun into a sequel, “The Forbidden Legend: Sex and Chopsticks 2”.
