When paired with a special pair of spectacles they allow the user to have telescopic like vision of the world around them. The system has been developed by researchers to help try and treat age related blindness. So how does it all work then?
The study has been funded by DARPA, the research arm of the US military and researchers on the project believe that they could even help soldiers on the battlefield. For the glasses, researchers adapted a pair that Samsung produces for some of its 3D TV sets. The prototype contact lens they have produced is 8mm in diameter, 1mm thick at its centre and 1.17mm thick in its magnifying ring.
